Национальная ассоциация дилеров по ценным бумагам и инвестиционных менеджеровЗакон Мэлони, принятый в 1938 г. и заменивший Закон о ценных бумагах и биржах 1934 г., обеспечивает саморегулирование внебиржевого рынка ценных бумаг ассоциациями, зарегистрированными в Комиссии по ценным бумагам и биржам. Национальная ассоциация дилеров по ценным бумагам стала единственной ассоциацией, зарегистрированной таким образом, и большинство компаний, предлагающих переменные аннуитеты, стати членами Национальной ассоциации дилеров по ценным бумагам. 1 января 1984 г. Национальная ассоциация дилеров по ценным бумагам и инвестиционных менеджеров была официально признана государством саморегулирующимся органом.
